Chalkidiki

 

Mount Athos is located on the third peninsula of Chalkidiki. Unlike Agion Oros, the rest of Chalkidiki is thriving with modern life and excitement. The first peninsula is called Kassandra. It is the most cosmopolitan and usually gets the most visitors. Its beaches face either west on the Aegean or east on Toroneos gulf. The middle peninsula is Sithonia. Here the distances are greater but the reward is that it is more peaceful. Here one can find smaller hotels, more isolated areas and thicker forests. The west beaches here face Kassandra and the ones on the east side face Mount Athos.
